One of the objectives of the FSCA is to facilitate group interaction and action, which will result in projects being defined. Some projects will have their own web page, which will be posted here with a brief description.
Support Reauthorization of Title II and Title III of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act (SRS)
Many fire safe councils in rural counties depend on Title II and/or Title III funding from the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act (SRS) to pay for Coordinator positions and projects. This funding source is set to expire in 2011. Please join the Partnership for Rural America in its efforts to get the SRS renewed for 10 years. (You can also follow the Partnership for Rural American on Facebook.) Tom Esgate, Executive Director of the Lassen County Fire Safe Council provides background on this issue in this pdf file. Tom has also provided a sample letter.
Fire Safe Insurance
The first project we're considering is to work with the insurance industry to have them become partners in creating fire safe communities rather than just cancelling fire insurance policies. Because it is still being defined, this project does not yet have a web site. Please check back soon. If you have thoughts on this topic, please use our contact form or the Forum feature on the Connect page.
